Welcome to my new guest series where I invite fellow bloggers to write about their blog, how they make money from it and share their top tips and success stories. I would like to give a warm welcome to Bella, from Bella Wanana, to tell me about her blog.

Please tell me about your blog and why you started to blog about money

Bellawanana.com is a personal finance and lifestyle blog. My mission is to share the best tips and tricks on personal finance, wellness and ways to live a balanced but fulfilling life, one blog post at a time.

I have always been interested in personal finance. I was watching a lot of videos on YouTube, and they inspired me to start my blog to share my thoughts with the rest of the world.

What was your first ever blog post?

My first blog post was simply “Welcome to my blog”. I wrote about my failed attempt at starting a blog a few years ago, why I wanted to come back to blogging, and my commitment to writing at least one post a week. Having no clue about SEO or keyword research, I was only writing about what was on my mind. I thoroughly enjoyed the writing experience itself, though the post will probably never rank on Google haha.

I think we can all connect with that! There is so much to learn, it is unreal and quite overwhelming to get your head around it all. I did a lot of blogs in the early days with no thought to SEO, keyword research and only writing what was on my mind as well. If we knew then what we know now and write about what people want to read instead!

What is your favourite / most popular post?

I have two favourite posts actually. One is called When Life Gives You Free Candy, Take It. In this blog post, I talked about some of my favourite snippets of life that fill my heart with joy, such as the earthy aroma after rain, waking up in a cozy bed under a blanket, and a good conversation that lasts so long that I forget about the time.

I really like that one, especially on compliments. I go out of my way to write testimonials and give praise where it’s due, particularly when I have had excellent customer service. Dealing with the public is a thankless task at the best of times, so I think it’s important to give a shout out on social media and elsewhere.

Another one of my favourites, All about Bananas, is a fun(ny) and hopefully educational one. Not only will you learn lots about bananas, you will also learn what NOT to do as a blogger on reddit.

That’s brilliant! I eat a banana a day just out of habit as part of my lunch and it’s just a cheap and easy healthy snack. I didn’t know you could write so much about bananas – blogging can be so random!

Have you ever had a parking ticket? Was it deserved?

I actually have never had a parking ticket! Very proud!

Same here, but I would certainly know what to look out for if I did!

What’s your biggest money failure?

I think my biggest money failure was focusing too much on saving money that I neglected nurturing relationships. Although I still prioritize savings, I have learned to maintain a better balance between being frugal and enjoying life.

Being frugal has simply been a necessity for me over the years, although I have wasted and lost money on cars over the years. It’s all about balance, as you say.

What’s your biggest money success?

My biggest money success was paying for university by myself without resorting to my parents’ support or student loans. Between scholarships, bursaries and part-time jobs, I was able to break-even every year. I wrote about my journey and the tuition hacks that I used to pay for college on my blog.

Well done! Staying out of debt through that time of your life is no easy feat and is a great achievement.

Do you ever complain to get redress and refunds if service or goods don’t come up to scratch?

Not really for service, but for goods, definitely.

That’s good! It’s all about the principle for me every time. If we don’t speak up, nothing ever gets done or improves. We are simply too complacent in the UK and put up with any old rubbish and fob offs.

Potholes and the state of the roads are the bane of our lives. Have you ever won a pothole claim? Do you know how easy it is?

Thankfully I have never had to make such a claim, but I have read that it could be difficult.

It used to be fairly easy and it can be, but local authorities are moving the goal posts and work in cahoots with claims handlers to decline as many claims as possible. They use stock excuses as a first obstacle, but there are different ways and means to prove it. You will find this blog an interesting read:

Perseverance is the key to success every time.

Which Moneyblogger(s) do you most admire and why?

I really enjoy reading The Financial Diet. The story of how Chelsea Fagan and Lauren Page built the company from the ground up has always inspired me and motivated me to keep going.

I can see why – it’s a really good website with a wealth of content that everyone can take something from.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?

The Big, Hairy, Audacious Goal of mine is to become a go-to personal finance and lifestyle blog for readers who embrace a balanced and fulfilling life. That’s where I’d like to see myself in 5 years’ time.

Blogging can really take you places if you stick with it. Best of luck with it!

Thank you Bella once again – I really enjoyed looking through your blog.
